Springfield to conduct walking audit and joint planning meeting

The City of Springfield will conduct its first-ever walking audit on Monday, April 22^nd from 1 p.m. until 4:30 p.m. along 20^th Street and the adjacent neighborhoods. A walk audit is a tool used to help officials assess the existing conditions of a certain area and explore the possible improvements for enhanced mobility, increased connectivity, and future redevelopment. The feedback and data collected from these community engagement efforts will be used to update the comprehensive plan for the city as well as develop a corridor plan for 20^th Street. The walking audit and planning documents are being developed by McKenna, a planning agency the specializes in municipal planning, and financial assistance from the Michigan State Housing Development Authority (MSHDA) Housing Readiness Incentive Grant Program. At the conclusion of the walking audit Springfield officials will hold a joint meeting between the City Council and Planning Commission beginning at 6:00 p.m. inside of the Susan L.
